We The People of 305 is a nonpartisan, local resource for you and everyone who’s fed up with the current administration and daily executive orders attacking our freedom and rights under The Constitution. This administration isn’t like any other. It’s not conservative or liberal, right or left. It’s authoritarian, corrupt, and unchecked. Our Judicial is under siege. Our Florida representatives have taken the money and run.

Defending our country is up to us, We The People!

Because many of you are asking, “But what can I do?” A few of us built this website to help you find answers. Find what works for you. Choose the activity or action you are comfortable doing.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors are longtime residents of The 305 with a common concern for democracy, the Constitution and our vulnerable community. Miami is the Ellis Island of Latin America, welcoming to all, diverse and resilient. We The People of 305 (WTP305) have a lot to lose in the next four years including our hardworking people –the magic of this city. To help organize and unite the many groups in Miami working to voice opposition to the attacks on our freedom by the current administration, a few of us got together to create something unique.

WTP305 is not affiliated with a party, although we will support certain candidates. We’re not going to ask you for $5 every time we reach out, although we may occasionally ask for donations. For now, we’re self-funded and exist to help you decide what you can do, what you are comfortable doing, by providing you with a calendar of events specific to Miami-Dade and local, grassroots opportunities to get involved.

I’m a retired biology professor (ask me about mosquitoes) who served 5 terms in public office as Mayor of South Miami before escaping back to academia. In that time we cleaned up a corrupt and incompetent local government, passed environmental protections and clean energy initiatives, lowered crime by 75%, and sued Gov. DeSantis over his first attempt to subvert our community police department into an arm of ICE.

I was the first elected official in America to speak openly to the press about impending economic damage from climate change and the need for organized retreat from rising seas, drafting the first national sea level rise policy for the Office of Environmental Policy (OPM) under the Obama White House.

I never thought of myself as a politician until 2017, when Miami New Times named me as “Best Politician” and Politico magazine named me to the Politico50. What can you do at that point? I’d planned to enjoy retirement fly fishing the Everglades backcountry, but here we are, fighting a totalitarian takeover.

Either we rise up to keep our country a democracy, or… it’s too horrible to say. So, let’s get to work.

The Marketer

I’m a retired marketing exec, mom and grandmother who arrived in Miami to attend UM in the late 70s and never left. I may be retired, but I’ll never quit on The 305.

My long career in marketing and advertising honed skills as a writer, creative director, manager, trouble-shooter, strategist, but it’s my passion to fit in here, in this marvelously diverse, dynamic city, that drives me still. Miami is home. America is my country. And I will defend it against people who say we’re apathetic and won’t show up for what’s right.

If my skills and expertise can help connect me to you, and us to others — then we win.
